A chat with Georgia, Run Talk Run Poole

Every week we are interviewing someone from our ever-growing Run Talk Run community. This week we have had the pleasure of speaking with Georgia who runs with Run Talk Run Poole. Georgia has kindly shared her experiences of post-natal depression and what called her to reach out to Run Talk Run.

A chat with Georgia…

I run with RTR in Poole, since lockdown restrictions were lifted and it was possible to start again. I have run previously, completing different races including marathons, however, I had a baby during the lockdown so hadn't run for a few months, so I'm getting back into it again now. I have entries for three ultramarathons, so I include the RTR runs as part of my training for that, as well as enjoying a chat! I met the leader, Jane, at the Poole group and we have now entered Race to the Stones next year, raising money for The Lullaby Trust, so it's great to meet people as well as fitness/running.

About 5 weeks after Ted's birth at the start of April, I was diagnosed with post-natal depression, in addition to anti-depressants, my GP was, and still is, really supportive of my return to running. We have bought a running buggy for Ted which we are just starting to use, which makes it way easier to get out and run and gets Ted some fresh air too!

I knew I was at risk of letting the lockdown restrictions overcome my mental health, so I was searching for something that I felt comfortable doing that would get me out and help me to feel more confident with the new ways of doing things, so RTR was absolutely perfect & now it gives me something to look forward to on a Monday too.

I would encourage anyone to try it, no one gets left behind and we always do a bit of walking! It's such a friendly, welcoming group and with no pressure for times or speed, it's really enjoyable.
